Game 2

Comeback shatters Eagles’ hopes in 10-9 loss to Hiwassee College

The Eagles held a comfortable eight-run lead in the third inning, but a big comeback by Hiwassee College ended the Eagles’ hopes in a 10-9 heartbreaking loss.

The top of the first saw the Eagles take an early lead, 3-0. Megan Jones opened things with a double and scored after a Lesley Roberts single. The Eagles added more runs when Roberts scored on an RBI single by Caitlin Coburn and Madison Haymaker scored on an RBI single by Chloe Johnson.

The Eagles added a run in the second on a single from Roberts. They then exploded in the second inning as they scored 6 runs.  Coeburn, Johnson, Haley Short, Aly Webb, and Haymaker all singled while Jones and Roberts provided back-to back doubles to account for 5 runs.

From this point, ALC continued to knock the ball around, but were unable to get the one key hit to provide more runs.

The hosts scored one run in each of the first, third, fifth, and seventh to chip away at the deficit. The Tigers then converted a huge double play in the seventh inning to end a bases loaded threat from ALC.

In the bottom half of the inning, Hiwassee College’s, Ashley Ivnes slapped the ball to right field to provide the winning run.
