Megan JonesMontgomery, WV- The Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles battled to the wire before falling short to the home-standing West Virginia Tech Golden Bears 67-62 Saturday afternoon. The KIAC matchup was played in Montgomery, West Virginia.

In the first quarter, both clubs traded buckets.  The hosts led by as much as 5, but a Bailey O’Brian drive with 54 seconds remaining cut the Tech lead to 17-15 after one quarter of action.

In the second stanza, Lady Eagle guard Megan Jones and forward Sara Robinson scored the clubs first 12 points to keep the score tight. ALC led by 1 until a late bucket by WVT with 11 seconds remaining gave the Bears a 30-29 lead at intermission.

In the third period, Tech experienced the contests first major run. They went on 16-5 spurt to lead 46-34 with 5:31 remaining and appeared on the verge of blowing the game wide open.

The Lady Eagles answered the challenge. Spurred by the strength of three consecutive long range bombs, ALC closed the quarter on a 13-1 run and knotted the contest at 47 entering the final 10 minutes.

The Bears opened the fourth by scoring 5 quick points to lead 52-47.

Once again, Alice Lloyd responded as Tailor Morgan drilled a trifecta. Next, an old fashioned three point play from Taylor Arthur enabled the Lady Eagles to regain the lead (53-52) with 6:17 left in the game.

Unfortunately for the Alice Lloyd, WV Tech received 7 crucial points from forward Courtney Fisher and was able to finally grab a lead that the visitors could not overcome.

For ALC (10-14; 5-9 KIAC), Jones had her finest game of the year as the senior led all scorers with 24 points. She sank a solid 9-12 from the floor, including an outstanding 6-9 from long range. Arthur added a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. O’Brian came off the bench to add 10 points. Morgan led the club with 6 assists.

For Tech (9-14; 4-8 KIAC), Fisher led the way with 19 points and 9 rebounds.
