JBS GirlsThe June Buchanan Lady Crusaders earned an important district win as they held off the visiting Cougars of Letcher County Central 43-42 Tuesday night.

The game was a defensive battle from the get-go as neither team was able to find an offensive rhythm. The Crusaders led 9-6 after one quarter of action.

The second quarter was much of the same, but JBS’S Lexi Likens had 6 points to spark her club to a 16-9 lead at the intermission.

In the third quarter the two squads continued their battle. Lady Crusader Lindsey Proffitt tossed in 9 of her clubs 12 points, and they led 28-20.

In the last quarter, the Lady Cougars stormed back led by Shelby Halls 10 points. LCC would get as close as 1 point but Lexie Likens sank two crucial free throws late to put her squad ahead 43-39. Letcher sank a last second three to end the scoring.

For JBS (4-4) Proffitt led all scorers with 18, 15 coming in the critical second half. Megan Hall hit double figures with 10. Lexie Likens chipped in with 8, followed by Breana Harrington with 6 points and 8 rebounds. McKayla Likens sank a free throw for 1.

Letcher (4-10) was led by Destiny Hall with 14 points. Shelby Hall added 10. Alyssa Adams and Paige Caudill each had 8 while Grayson Collier sank a bucket for 2.
