Bob McFarlandKatie McFarland, a December 2015 graduate of Alice Lloyd College, is from Church Hill, Tennessee. While a student, she lightheartedly introduced herself as “Bob” one day—and this nickname is how she is affectionately known on campus. Bob is described by many of her peers as someone with a warm heart and a great sense of humor. Her charismatic personality has the ability to bring a smile and a comforted spirit to each person she encounters, and Bob certainly exemplifies what it means to be a servant leader.

Bob initially had her heart set on attending a local college in Tennessee… until one day her father convinced her to consider Alice Lloyd College. She reflects fondly about the “mental checklist” of expectations that the college of her choice would have to meet, which included, “a campus dog, sports, Christian groups and activities, and a local Christian radio station.” Her initial visit to ALC confirmed that the institution met all of her expectations and then some! “I got to campus and literally everything I wanted was here. There was this lovable campus dog named Sandy, a Christian radio station—WWJD, a Baptist Collegiate Ministry (BCM) which was welcoming, and awesome sports. The campus itself was cozy and quaint, and I decided it was just the place for me!”

Bob became very involved with BCM activities and took on a leadership role in the women’s Bible study group in Lilly Memorial Hall. She participated in athletics including the Women’s Volleyball Team and the Tennis Team. Bob was also a popular personality during basketball games when she took on the role of Talon, the Eagle mascot, and heightened the crowd’s enthusiasm.

Bob has absolutely no regrets about her decision to attend ALC.  Now that she has graduated, she plans on returning to Tennessee to pursue employment and service opportunities. For her “the sky is the limit!”
