12342519_1658385137736379_1666243312104532681_nThe June Buchanan Lady Crusaders, under the direction of Coach Brandon Hayes, opened the 2015-16 round ball season in challenging fashion as they traveled to Jenkins for a big district matchup. The game was tight the entire way before the hosts pulled out the win 59-55.

In the opening quarter, JBS came out and played well. Sparked by two Lexie Lykins triples, they led 15-9.

In the second quarter, Jenkins turned to all- state guard Whitney Creech to win the quarter 23-14. The Cavaliers led 32-29 at intermission as Creech had 25.

In the third quarter, Buchanan’s Lindsey Proffitt tossed in 8 points to keep the game tight, while Creech added 10 more to the Jenkins total to set the score at 47-43, Cavalier advantage, entering the final frame.

In the last stanza, Creech had all 12 of the Jenkins points, including 4 big free throws. June Buchanan refused to quit as they battled to the wire, but they only went 6-10 from the charity stripe.

For JBS (0-1) Proffitt played a solid game as she led the way with 18 points. Fellow sophomore Breanna Harrington played well and tossed in 15. Senior Megan Hall chipped in 9.

For Jenkins (2-0) Creech led the way as she poured in 47.
