12314013_1657225184519041_4204204358724417712_nJune Buchanan Head Coach Elisha Justice opened his second season as mentor of the Crusaders on a good note as his squad handily defeated district rival Jenkins on the road by a score of 77-41 on December 1st and followed that up with a solid 62-43 victory over Owsley County on December 3rd. Following are recaps of each contest.

June Buchanan Crusaders vs Jenkins Cavaliers

In the first half, the Crusaders quickly took control led by the red hot shooting of guard Steven Silvers.  They quickly raced to a lead and never looked back.

For the winners (1-0,) Silvers led all scorers with 25 points, including connecting on an impressive 7-8 from three point land. Idris Akinyemi and Danny Snow contributed 13 and 11 points while Princewill Anosike chipped in with 9 points and a game high 8 rebounds.

June Buchanan Crusaders vs Owsley County Owls

A dominating first half performance propelled June Buchanan to an easy 64-45 victory over the visiting Owls.

 The game was tight early as the Crusaders managed an 18-12 lead after one quarter of action. JBS exploded in the second, however, outscoring Owsley 25-3 to take a commanding 43-15 lead at intermission.

In the second half, June Buchanan saw the lead balloon to 34 before the bench came in to get ample playing time. The hosts led comfortably the remainder of the night.

For the winners (2-0,) Idris Akinyemi led a balanced scoring attack with 16. Joining him in double figures was Steven Silvers and Elijah Branham, with 13 and 12 points respectively.
