June Buchanan Crusaders Defeat South Floyd 77-47

Senior Steven Silvers pumped in 24 points and junior Idris Akinyemi added 14 points and 15 rebounds to lead the June Buchanan Crusaders to a convincing 77-47 victory over the visiting South Floyd Raiders.

JBS jumped out to an 18-10 lead after one quarter of play and used a balanced attack to pull ahead 39-25 by intermission.

The Crusaders broke the game wide open in the third, outscoring the Raiders 19-10, and coasted from there to the victory.

In addition to Silvers and Akinyemi, Elijah Branham and Hunter Hammond each added 11 points.

South Floyd was led by Clifton Trammell with 17.

June Buchanan Crusaders Make Good Showing in Hi-Tech Signs/Graphix Holiday Classic

The June Buchanan Crusaders traveled to Prestonsburg to participate in the Hi-Tech Signs/Graphix Holiday Classic before Christmas. Below are recaps of each game.

JBS-70; Greenup County-53

Elijah Branham led a balanced scoring attack as the Crusaders defeated the Musketeers in the opening round.

Leading 19-14 after one quarter of action, Buchanan put 26 points on the board (paced by 13 points from Steven Silvers) in stanza number two and took a 45-31 lead at intermission.

In the third quarter, JBS doubled up the Musketeers 16-8, and the 61-39 deficit was too much for Greenup to overcome.

For Buchanan (4-2), Elijah Branham played an excellent game with 19 points and 15 rebounds. He was followed in double figures by Silvers with 18. Idris Akinyemi added 15 points and 13 rebounds while Princewill Anosike contributed 8 points and 11 rebounds. Hunter Hammond and Daniel Snow chipped in with 7 and 3 points respectively.

Greenup (4-3) was led by Gage Hughes with 15.

JBS-71; Lawrence County-75

The 15th regions top club got all they could handle from the Crusaders before prevailing 75-71.

Sparked by 8 early points from Elijah Branham, JBS led 18-15 after one quarter of play. The second quarter belonged to the Bulldogs as they outscored the Crusaders 18-9 to take a 33-27 lead at the half.

In the third quarter, Lawrence outscored Buchanan 25-20 to take a 58-47 lead heading into the final frame.

JBS got 13 big points from Steven Silvers in the last quarter as they fought back, but the Bulldogs were able to hold on for the win.

For Buchanan (4-3), Silvers led the way with 26 points, 24 coming in the second half. He was followed by Idris Akinyemi with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Princewill Anosike added 13 points and 17 big rebounds while Branham chipped in with 11. Daniel Snow and Hunter Hammond rounded out the scoring with 3 and 2 apiece.

The Bulldogs (6-0) were led by Robert Chaffin and Austin Dalton, each with 16 points. The victors won the game from the free throw line, as they sank 15-23 compared to just 1-1 for Buchanan.

JBS-58; Allen Central-50

Idris Akinyemi rammed in 20 points and added 12 rebounds to lead June Buchanan (5-3) to a victory over the Running Rebels in the third place game.

Princewill Anosike stepped up with 13 points and 14 rebounds while Elijah Branham swished in 13 points.

Hunter Hammond and Daniel Snow each added 4 points while Steven Silvers and Cage Watts both added a bucket for 2 points apiece

Allen Central (3-6) was led by Seth Hall with 31 points.


Big Fourth Quarter Propels June Buchanan Past Knott County Central 44-41

The June Buchanan Crusaders used a 21-8 last quarter to earn a come-from –behind 44-41 victory over the Knott County Central Patriots.

The contest was a defensive battle from the get-go as neither team was able to produce much on the offensive end. Knott led the entire first half and took a 25-16 lead into the locker room at intermission.

 In the second half the teams continued to battle on defense as neither squad allowed the other to produce many points. Knott put up just 8 points while JBS only produced 7. Based on the way the game was going, the Patriots held a comfortable 33-23 advantage as the third quarter came to an end.

In the last quarter, Crusader mentor Elisha Justice saw his club respond. Leading scorer Steven Silvers opened the quarter with back to back threes to slice the deficit to 33-29. After an Elijah Branham triple reduced the deficit further, JBS eventually tied the game at 34-apiece with 4: 00 remaining on a Princewill Anosike follow-up bucket.

JBS took their first lead on a huge bucket by Daniel Snow and increase it to 4 after Snow hit 2-2 free throws on the following possession.

The Crusaders led 44-41 with less than 10 seconds to play and Knott got a three point attempt to tie things up from guard Austin Combs, but it came up short.

For JBS (6-3), they were paced by the duo of Idris Akinyemi and Elijah Branham with 11 points apiece. Anosike and Silvers each added 9. Snow contributed 4. Akinyemi and Anosike added 14 and 11 rebounds respectively.

For the Patriots (6-3), Combs led the way with 11. He was followed by Issac Caudill with 7 points and 13 rebounds. Gannon Couch, Cameron Jones, and Landon Noble each added 6 points while Branson Couch and Kolton Hofsess contributed 3 and 2 points respectively.
