The Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles opened the 2015-16 basketball season by hosting the Kentucky Christian University Lady Knights on Tuesday, November 3rd. In the end, the hosts prevailed by the score of 61-43. This year, college women have changed from playing two 20 minute halves to playing four 10 minute quarters, so the adjustment was a little different to watch.

The Eagles got off to a slow start in the first stanza while the Knights got off to a great start to lead 21-15 at the end of the first quarter. ALC tightened up their defense in the second quarter and outscored their guests 14-6 to take a 29-27 at intermission.

In the second half, riding the scoring of junior Amber Shepherd, ALC opened with a quick 5-0 run. For about the next three minutes, both teams traded buckets as the margin for Alice Lloyd increased to eight by the end of the quarter (49-41). Shepherd had 18 points as the clubs entered the locker room.

In the last quarter, KCU went ice cold as the girls in white and blue limited them to a single bucket. They pulled away to set the final margin of victory at 18.

For the victors (1-0), Shepherd was Alice Lloyd’s leader as she  poured in 26 points and sank 5 three point bombs. Sophomore Taylor Arthur  played well as she produced 17 points and added 10 boards.

For KCU (0-1) Allie Slone led the way with 10 points.
