The Tigers from Hiwassee College traveled down to Pippa Passes to take on the Eagles in a two game series Thursday. In two contests that went down to the wire, the hosts dropped both decisions, each by 1 run.

April 1

Game 1

ALC-8; HC-9

Kevin Smith

The Eagles trailed 4-0, rallied to lead by 4, and then suffered a heartbreaking loss in extra innings.

Hiwassee jumped ahead quickly 4-0, but the home team rallied. With the contest even at 4-4 in the fifth, the Eagles began to connect. Alice Lloyd’s Kevin Smith hit a double with the bases loaded to score all 3 runs and give ALC an 8-4 lead. At this point, victory seemed assured. Unfortunately, the momentum swung again as the visitors would cut into that deficit and eventually tie things up in the seventh. In extra innings, they scored the go-ahead run. The Eagles had runners on first and second, but popped out to end the game.

Pitcher Aaron Boling suffered the loss on the mound in relief.

Game 2

ALC-1; HC-2

Austin White

HC led from start to finish in winning the final game.

Trailing 1-0 in the fourth, Eagle shortstop Austin White hit a single, and then scored when Ryne Loggins drove him in with a double. Hiwassee answered with a run in the top of the seventh to lead 2-1. Down once more to their last at bat, ALC had a runner on second; however, they left him stranded as the contest ended.

Pitcher Jake Weaver suffered the loss.
