Rio Grande broke open a close contest in the fifth inning to pull away for the win in game one.

Trailing 2-1 entering the fourth inning, the Eagles saw Rio score 5 big runs; they added 2 insurance runs an inning later. The hosts plated 1 run apiece over the last two innings, but it was too little, too late.

The Eagles bats matched their counterparts with 11 hits apiece, but ALC hurt themselves by stranding 8 important runners.

Ryne Loggins, Austin White, and Greg Wright each smacked 2 hits apiece. Pitcher Chance Westerfield allowed 6 runs while suffering the loss.

Game 2

Alice Lloyd scored first, but allowed the guests to spread out 6 runs over the final five innings to seal the game.

ALC’s Patrick Barnett drove in the game’s first run in the bottom of the second with a double, but the Eagles struggled to register hits from that point; Rio held them to only 5 for the game while registering 13 of their own.

Pitcher Austin Johnson gave up 6 hits while striking out 1 in suffering the loss.

Rio Grande will return to Pippa Passes on Tuesday to make-up the final two games of the series.
