The Alice Lloyd Eagles baseball team played their first conference matchup of the season on Saturday and Sunday as they hosted Brescia University for a four game series. The Eagles were victorious in the first contest before dropping the final three matches. Below are recaps of each game.
March 21
Game 1
ALC-6; Brescia U-5
Trailing 4-0 entering the bottom of the fourth inning, the Eagles rallied to tie the score. Brescia responded by scoring 1 run in the top of the seventh inning to lead 5-4. Down to their last at bat, the hosts scored 2 runs to earn the victory.
The Eagles bats outhit their counterparts 12-7 as Tanner Hensley, Patrick Barnett, and Austin Thompson each had 2 hits. Pitcher Jesse Hall threw 2 innings of no-hit ball to earn the win.
Game 2
ALC-5; Brescia U-11
Brescia entered this game determined not to let it slip away as they jumped out 7-0. After ALC plated 3 runs in the fourth inning, BU slammed the door shut with a 4 run fifth.
The hosts were outhit 10-6, as Tanner Hensley provided 2 hits.
Pitcher Logan Condra gave up 10 hits while striking out 3 in suffering the loss.
March 22
Game 1
ALC-1; Brescia U-6
The visitors managed to contain the Eagle bats for 7 innings to earn the win. Once again, they vaulted ahead quickly, 6-1 after four innings. ALC was only outhit 11-10, but could not get the big hit when they needed it. Ronnie Saylor smacked 2 doubles to lead the way.
Pitcher Timmy Sublett suffered the loss on the mound.
Game 2
ALC-3; Brescia U-5
The Eagles dropped a tough contest in a game that went extra innings.
Trailing 3-0 entering the fifth, the hosts tied the score. It remained that way until BU squeaked a run across the plate in the top of the 8th inning. Unfortunately, ALC was unable to answer.
Patrick Barnett had 2 of the Eagles 6 hits, as they were outhit 9-6.
Pitcher Aaron Boling allowed 5 runs on 9 hits while striking out 6 batters in suffering the loss.
