The Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles were on home ground on Tuesday, November 25th as they squared off with the Pikeville Lady Bears. The Lady Eagles stayed with Pikeville for a while but the visiting team proved to be too much as they pulled away in the latter stages, winning by the final score of 91-79.

The Lady Eagles were hoping to avoid dropping back-to-back games for the second time this season. It wasn’t a great start for ALC as UPike jumped out to an early lead. Pikeville had a lead in double digits at one point but the Lady Eagles scrapped their way back into the game. The half ended with both teams knotted up at 42.

The Lady Eagles grabbed the advantage with a three-pointer by Carla Booth in the first few seconds of the second stanza. However, Alice Lloyd wasn’t able to keep the lead and Pikeville charged back. Pikeville’s conditioning was superior and it showed up later in the second half as ALC grew weary and were not able to keep up with the Lady Bears. The Lady Bears pulled away late as they outscored ALC in the last stanza, 49-37.

ALC converted on 41 percent (31 for 75) of their field goals including 21 percent (3 for 14) from beyond the arc and 82 percent (14 for 17) from the charity stripe. For Pikeville, they went 29 for 62 (46 percent) from the field while connecting on 1 three-point shot out of 12 tries (8 percent) and made 32 free throws on 40 attempts (80 percent). Pikeville won the rebounding battle in decisive fashion, 46-28.

The Lady Eagles (4-4) were paced by Carla Booth with 32 points. The senior guard also had 4 rebounds and 3 assists. Amber Shepherd produced 11 points while Serena Nickell pitched in with 10.

24 points by Khalilah Quigley led the way for Pikeville (7-2, 2-2 MSC).
