The Alice Lloyd Men’s Basketball squad began its season on Tuesday, November 4th against the Knights of Kentucky Christian University. KCU kept it close in the first half, but the hosts turned it on in the second to come out on top, 99-78.

This was the first time that J.R. Hammond’s crew took to the court in regular play this season and they didn’t disappoint. ALC started the game on a 6-0 run including a crowd pleasing dunk by sophomore Trevor Tiller (Paintsville).Eventually, KCU fought back and tied the game at 10 with thirteen minutes to play. The Knights held a 21-20 margin before Alice Lloyd recaptured the advantage with six minutes to go (22-21). From that point on, ALC never trailed again and took a 39-36 advantage into the locker room.

ALC opened the final stanza on a 16-6 run in the first three and a half minutes. KCU reduced the deficit to ten, but each time they made a small run, the hosts had an answer. Alice Lloyd increased their margin to twenty-one (89-68) with four minutes to go and settled for the final score.

 For the night, Alice Lloyd (1-0) shot 55 percent (36 for 65) from the field. KCU (0-1) was 22 for 70 in field goals (31 percent). The Eagles were 23 for 32 (72 percent) from the foul line while KCU went 27 for 34 (79 percent). The home team won the rebounding battle, 45-37.

Junior Tyler Rogers (Lexington), who had multiple dunks on the night, scored a game-high 27 points. Tiller provided 15 points while junior Cody Malicoat (Jellico, TN) chipped in with 12 points and 7 rebounds. Freshman guard Austin Crisp (Flemingsburg) added 9 points.

Caleb Ford led the Knights with 24 points.
