On Saturday, November 8, the June Buchanan Crusaders opened their Academic Team season in the JV Challenge. This freshman and sophomore level competition was held at Prestonsburg High School, and six high schools (JBS, Prestonsburg HS, South Floyd HS, Allen Central HS, Betsy Layne HS, and Piarist) took part in the day’s events.

The JBS Quick Recall team went undefeated throughout the tournament, easily winning 1st place. Individual students also placed at the top of several major categories.

Arts & Humanities: Connor Jacobs—1st place
Language Arts: Trey Moore—1st place; Ruby Yeary—3rd place
Science: Colton Jacobs—1st place
Social Studies: Trey Moore—1st place; Connor Jacobs—2nd place; Colton Jacobs—3rd place

As a result of these standings, the Crusaders won 1st place overall in this tournament. Team member Ruby Yeary stated, “It feels great to win the way we did! We’ve been working hard for a long time in practice, so it’s good that it all paid off.” These results bode well for the young Crusaders as they enter district and regional competitions later in the year
