The Alice Lloyd College Cross Country squad traveled to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on November 8th to participate in the KIAC Conference championship. The weather was cold and breezy with temperatures in the mid-40s around race time.
In the women’s 5K race, 68 women toed the starting line. Junior Allison Holbrook gave her all, as she crossed the line in 24:45. Following Holbrook was freshman Allison Bolling who finished with a time of 27:52. Both girls had been sick just prior to the meet.
On the men’s side in the 8K race, 55 men left with the starter’s gun. Junior Clay Montgomery battled hard as he demonstrated a gritty determination returning from a month long injury. He finished the race in 34:52. Freshman Chris Baker was right behind Montgomery, crossing the finish line in a time of 35:09.
After the meet, Eagle Coach Gary D. Stepp commented, “I am really pleased with the effort my runners. Unfortunately, we had an injury plagued year, which cost us several runners .We had several men who were either hurt or had to red-shirt this season. Next year we should have a full squad ready to go.”
The coach added, “They now know more of what to expect on this level, and of what they need to do to achieve their best. I feel that they are each hungry to improve, and I expect greater things from them next season.”
