IMG_0564Chris Baker is the men’s athlete of the week. Baker is a freshman runner from Bell County. Chris graduated high school in 2009, but felt that college was not the route for him at that time. Instead, he enlisted in the United States Marines where he served for 4 years. During his years of service to our country, he served 2 stints in the Middle East. Upon completing his duty, Chris knew he wanted to earn a college education, so he enrolled at Alice Lloyd. Chris had ran cross country his last two years of high school and was eager to get involved once again. Despite the fact that he had not raced in over 5 years, Chris set out with a strong determination to improve. With his pluck and grit, Chris has demonstrated a true winning effort each and every day. In his first meet at Shawnee State, Ohio, Chris completed the 5 mile run in 34:54. In his second meet at Berea on a more challenging course, Chris completed the race in 35:00. As his comfort level for racing returns, Chris is sure to see his time dramatically decrease.
