Boden HallThe June Buchanan School is an institution built on a strong sense of devotion to one’s community. Charity Cook, JBS senior, recently exemplified this by encouraging her fellow classmates and teachers to participate in a school-wide shoe drive.

Cook decided to host the shoe drive after seeing many children who attend her church wearing shoes with holes in them or not wearing any at all. She decided to take action and she, along with the help of her peers, were able to gather one hundred sixty-three pairs of shoes that will be donated to resource centers in Knott County schools where they will be distributed to children in need.

“I have been very blessed and want to share those blessings with others, especially those who are less fortunate,” says Cook. “I believe that no matter your age, you can always take action and make a difference in the lives of those who need your help.”

Cook would like to continue inspiring others to give by hosting a coat drive for those in need during the upcoming winter months. If interested, please keep checking back for more information on how you can participate.
