Tennis-Team-Photo-2014The Alice Lloyd College men’s tennis team has received an NAIA Champions of Character Team Award for the 2013-14 season. The Buffalo Funds Five Star Champions of Character Team Awards are presented at the end of the season for each of the NAIA’s 23 championship sports. Teams that receive this prestigious award demonstrate in everyday decisions integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship and servant-leadership. These institutions and athletic programs strive for excellence in and out of competition and are part of communities throughout the country dedicated to character-driven intercollegiate athletics.

Speaking of his team’s success, head coach Dustan Turner says, “These young men have displayed exemplary character and sportsmanship throughout the season. They support and encourage each other. We have a paraplegic student-athlete on our team, and it’s been amazing to watch our team rally around him and cheer him on in his matches. This positive attitude has really worked to boost the team’s performance and chemistry.”

Team members also exhibited impressive qualities of servant-leadership, one of the major desired outcomes of the Alice Lloyd College experience, by teaching a local high school tennis team about the five core values of the Champions of Character program.
