Tyler Rogers tees off on the first hole of the second round at Battlefield Golf Club.

by Dr. Robert Hamilton, Eagles Golf Head Coach

The ALC golf team — Cody Hyden, Drew Riley, Tyler Hayes, Tyler Rogers, Tanner Hayes, and Josh Gibson — competed at the Berea Spring Tee Off Tournament at the Battlefield Golf Club in Richmond, KY. Conditions were very difficult the first day with cool temperatures, high winds and a very wet golf course. The Eagles struggled to a team score of 390.

The second day conditions were much better, and the Eagles shot 339. Cody Hyden led the Eagles with 88/79 for a total of 167 and an overall tie for 26th place. Only one ALC golfer shot over 90 in the second round. The low team for the tournament was Point Park University, shooting 309/293 for a total of 602. Asbury University finished second, shooting 322/306 for a total of 628. Low individual was Steve Veydt of Point Park University with a 76/68 for a total of 144, even par for the two rounds.

ALC’s team result of 390/339 for a total two-day score of 729 was good for 7th of 8.

“The 339 represents a substantial improvement for the golf team,” says Coach Hamilton. “The team is playing more to their ability, and this makes us competitive among the other schools. It is the best round they have played since I have been involved with the team.”

The Eagles next golf outing is Saturday, April 12th, in a Ryder Cup-style friendly with Berea at Gibson Bay Golf Course, the site of the conference championships later in the month.
