The Alice Lloyd Eagles hosted Hiwassee College on Monday, April 7th for a doubleheader. Here is a recap of the two-game series.
Chris Delgado toed the mound for the first game of the series. There was no score through two innings, but in the third, Hiwassee was able to get two go-ahead runs home. ALC scored one in the bottom half of the inning.
The game was turned upside down in the fifth as HC scored six runs to break the game open.
Shane Pack and Austin White knocked in the runs for Alice Lloyd. Delgado pitched four and one-third innings, allowing eight hits and seven runs (six earned) while recording a couple of Ks. Dustin Williams, Chance Westerfield, Mackenzie Hicks and Daniel Burgess pitched two and two-thirds innings, giving up four hits and two runs.
Coach Scott Cornett would hand Logan Condra the ball for the second game of the double dip. This one was an absolute pitcher’s duel as neither team could manage to bring a run home through the first eight innings. Unfortunately for the Eagles, Hiwassee was able to manufacture two runs in the ninth to ultimately give them the victory.
Condra was brilliant, going six and a-third, giving up five hits but did not allow a run while ringing up three batters. Timmy Sublett, Chance Westerfield and Neil Dillon pitched the other two and two-thirds innings. They allowed three hits and two runs (one earned).
The Eagles return to the field in non-conference action on Wednesday, April 9th in a 9-innings game versus UPike. Game time is set for 3 PM at ALC’s Reeve Athletic Field.
