The Alice Lloyd Eagles were back on home ground on Friday, February 28th, and Saturday, March 1st, as they hosted the College of Mount Saint Joseph and Ohio State-Lima. Here is a recap of the two series.

Alice Lloyd versus Mt. St. Joseph

Jake Woolwine started game one of the two-game set against Mount Saint Joseph. ALC was able to get on the board first in the bottom half of the first inning, scoring two runs to take a 2-0 advantage. Mount Saint Joseph rallied in the top of the third with two runs to even the score. A two-run fourth for the Eagles would give them a lead that they would not relinquish, taking the 4-2 victory.

Kevin Smith, Shane Pack and Alex Dapkus drove home the runs for Alice Lloyd. Woolwine pitched two innings, allowing three hits and two runs while striking out two. Daniel Burgess, Logan Condra, Mackenzie Hicks and Wayne Sparks pitched the other five innings. The relievers allowed five hits and two runs.

Game two only went seven innings and ended in a tie due to darkness. In the series finale, Justin Smith made his second start of the season. Both teams scored in the first inning. Mount Saint Joseph plated two runs while Alice Lloyd got one of the runs back, making it 2-1 in favor of the visitors through one. ALC was able to get the equalizer home in the third to tie it at 2-2.

Shane Pack and Tanner Hensley came up with the “ribbies” for the Eagles. Smith lasted four innings, allowing four hits and two runs. He also walked three batters and struck out three. Timmy Sublett, Jarred Tate and Ryan Burrow pitched the final two innings, surrendering only a hit.

Alice Lloyd versus Ohio State-Lima

In the series opener, Neil Dillon took to the mound for the Eagles. The game was scoreless until the top of the second when OSL manufactured a run home to take the early lead. ALC would score twice in the third to take a 2-1 advantage. The Eagles also brought home two in the fourth and fifth innings to make it 6-1. Ohio State-Lima would try their best to mount a comeback in the last two innings, but was not able to overcome the five-run deficit.

Austin White, Ben Ray, Tanner Hensley, Shane Pack and Kevin Smith all had one RBI each for the home team. Dillon, the ace of the ALC pitching staff, went six innings. The senior gave up six hits but only two runs while striking out three. Mackenzie Hicks and Chance Westerfield came in to close out the last inning, allowing just one hit and recording two Ks.

Ryan Burrow was named the starter for the second game of the set. ALC would capture the lead early by scoring a run in the second, making it 1-0 Alice Lloyd. Two more in the third would increase the Eagles lead to make it 3-0. OSL would storm back in the top of the fourth to jump ahead, getting five runs across the plate.

The Eagles showed their will to win and overcome adversity in the bottom half of the fourth. A four-run fourth would see the hosts take the lead for good, making it 7-5. ALC would add an insurance run in the fifth.

Alex Dapkus blasted home three runs. Dustin Williams, Trae Minton, Jake Bales and Ronnie Saylor also had RBIs for ALC. In three and one-third innings, Burrow surrendered three hits and three runs (two earned) while striking out two. The bullpen (Chance Westerfield, Greg Wright and Wayne Sparks) would pitch three and two-thirds innings, allowing seven hits and two runs (one earned).

The Eagles are off on Spring Break through March 11th. They will return to the field on March 12th to play Ohio Christian. The doubleheader is scheduled for 1 PM at ALC’s Reeve Athletic Field.
