The Alice Lloyd Eagles hosted the IU Southeast Grenadiers in conference play for a four-game set. Here is a brief game-by-game look of the series.
ALC 3 – IUS 14
The Eagles were only outhit 16-12, but 4 errors and 13 stranded runners at the plate were too much to overcome.
Jacob Bales and Kevin Smith each had 2 hits, including a double apiece, while Zach Hancock added a two bagger of his own. Smith, Bobby Caldwell and Tanner Hensley each had an RBI.
Chance Westfield suffered the loss on the mound. Jake Woolwine and Daniel Burgess threw in relief.
ALC 3 – IUS 2
Wayne Sparks threw 6.2 innings of 4-hit ball to propel ALC to the win in game two.
Alice Lloyd outhit their rivals 8-5 as Tanner Hensley provided two hits. Zack Hancock and Will Hamilton each had an RBI.
Sparks was in control from the mound the entire game and struck out three batters before giving up the ball to Timmy Sublett, who closed the door on the Grenadiers to earn the save.
ALC 3 – BU 15
In the third game of the four-game set, Southeast pounded out 18 hits and scored in six of their first seven innings to win.
Shane Pack had 2 of the host’s 6 hits as they never could mount a flurry of hits to begin a comeback. Neil Dillon suffered the loss on the mound, while Logan Condra, Mackenzie Hicks, and Greg Wright provided relief.
ALC 2 – IUS 12
The Eagles took a 2-0 lead into the fifth inning only to see their guests rally with an 8-run inning and pull ahead for the win.
ALC was outhit 14-5, as Ryne Loggins, Austin White, Shane Pack, Greg Wright, and Trae Minton each slapped a single. White and Pack each provided an RBI.
Starting pitcher Chris Delgado allowed only 4 hits and 1 run over the first four innings. Justin Smith, Timmy Sublett, and Ryan Burrow provided relief, with Smith suffering the loss.
The Eagles return to their home field on Tuesday, March 25th, for a 9-innings battle with non-conference opponent University of the Cumberlands at 1 PM.
