BEREA, Ky. — The KIAC coaches have selected Alice Lloyd College senior forward Ariel Nickell as the conference Player of the Year. Nickell led Alice Lloyd College to a 17-10 overall record and 12-6 conference record. This is the Tazewell, Tn. native’s third straight Player of the Year honor.

The Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles entered the KIAC Tournament as the No. 3 seed. Nickell was near the top in the conference and in the nation in several statistical categories. She ranked 1st in NAIA Division II in rebounds per game (13.538) and 2nd in points per game (25.808). She also ranked 9th in 3-point field goal percentage (42.3), which led the KIAC. She ranked 7th in the KIAC in field goal percentage (48.4) and was 3rd in free throw percentage (76.7). She was selected as the KIAC Player of the Week twice this season.

Nickell made history at Alice Lloyd during her final season with the program. She broke the women’s and men’s all-time scoring and rebounding records, finishing her illustrious college basketball career having scored 2,587 points and claiming a monstrous 1,251 rebounds.

“It’s definitely an honor to receive this award,” Nickell says. “I want to give a huge thanks to my teammates and coach. They’re the reason this was possible.”

Alice Lloyd College is also proud to report that junior point guard Carla Booth was selected for the KIAC All-Conference Team. Since transferring to Alice Lloyd as a sophomore, Booth has been one of the best players at her position in the conference. In the 2013-14 season, Booth averaged nearly 20 points per game and shot over 40% from the floor and from long range. She scored her 1,000th point on February 18th in a win over Berea College. She has several top 10 and top 20 rankings in the NAIA Division II, including being 10th in assists per game at 5.4.

“I’m honored to be named to this elite squad,” said Booth. “I’m proud to represent Alice Lloyd College and our women’s basketball program. I couldn’t have done this without my team.”

In other KIAC news, Asbury University head coach Bart Flener was selected as Conference Coach of the Year, conference officials announced Thursday, February 27th. Flener led the Eagles to a 24-6 overall record and 13-4 conference record. They shared the regular season title with Point Park and entered the KIAC Tournament as the No. 2 seed.

Cincinnati Christian University junior Amanda Baute was selected as the Newcomer of the Year after transferring to CCU for her junior season. Baute ranked 3rd in the conference in points per game (20.67), 1st in field goal percentage (54.4), 4th in steals per game (2.33) and 3rd in rebounds per game (10.37). She also ranks 10th in NAIA Division II points per game and rebounds per game.
