Ryan Wells

My name is Ryan Wells, and I am currently in my senior year at Alice Lloyd College. I was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio. After spending three years at Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana, I ventured down to Caney Creek in Pippa Passes, KY and explored Alice Lloyd.

I have always wanted to be involved in the criminal justice system in some form or fashion, and that is one of the reasons why I attended Wabash College. However, after I joined the fraternity Phi Gamma Delta, I suddenly realized that not only was I leader among my peers, but also that my interests and life aspirations did not pertain to the judicial sphere. Following countless hours of evaluation and support from my family and friends, I decided to make a change and set my sights on pursuing a degree in education. After that, my family and I looked for a new school that I could possibly attend the following semester. We wanted a college that was affordable, with a great reputation and a strong education department.

After a late summer visit, I immediately knew that Alice Lloyd College was the right fit for me. The campus’s scenery, the price of tuition, the department of education’s mission statement, and the kindness of the administration all captivated me instantly.

Here at Alice Lloyd College I have continued to use my rhetoric skills to the fullest advantage. Throughout my first year I instantaneously made a number of friends from a variety of places ranging from Virginia, Tennessee, West Virginia, and all over Kentucky. Additionally, I am also a Resident Advisor, which only helps to highlight and enrich my leadership skills. As an RA, I have a great amount of responsibilities and duties, including making sure students follow the rules, keep their rooms clean, and have a safe and enjoyable semester. My leadership abilities have kept growing, and just last spring, I entered ALC’s highly competitive James V. Mongiardo Speech Competition and won. Moreover, being at this school so far has taught me how to use my time wisely, enabled me to enhance my abilities, and has taught me how to become a more efficient leader.

Ryan won first place in ALC's 2013 James V. Mongiardo Speech Competition.

As a declared Social Studies Education major, I am taking all the necessary courses I will need to secure my dream of becoming a high school teacher. Even though I will have spent more time at an undergraduate school than the average college student, I would have to say that transferring to Alice Lloyd College was more than worth it. I am excited to see what the future brings!
