The Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles were back in action on Saturday, January 25th, after a week off due to a team illness. Coach Mills and the team traveled on icy roads to Midway, Kentucky to take on the Midway College Lady Eagles. Unfortunately, ALC was unable to get much going in this matchup as they struggled and ultimately went down, 77-66.

The Lady Eagles came into this game looking for their fourth victory in succession. The contest was tight throughout the first half as Midway held a slim margin for most of the way. MC would go into the locker room leading Alice Lloyd by only three points, 38-35.

ALC kept the score close in the second half, but the home team proved to be a bit too strong. The Lady Eagles faded down the stretch as they were outscored by Midway, 39-31.

Taylor Arthur led the Lady Eagles (11-7, 6-3 KIAC) with a career-high 25 points and 13 rebounds, while Carla Booth had 22 points with 6 assists despite turning the ball over 7 times. Ariel Nickell had one of the weakest performances of her career as the forward had 10 rebounds and 9 points on 4-for-11 shooting. Nickell, already the leading scoring in the history of the women’s basketball program at ALC, needs just 51 points to become the all-time leading scorer in Alice Lloyd College basketball history.

Midway’s (6-11, 3-4 KIAC) Miranda Rone scored 23 points.

Midway went 46.3% from the field (25-for-54) while ALC shot 38.7% (24-for-62). Perhaps the biggest difference in the game came down to foul shooting: Midway shot 34 free throws, knocking down 23 (67.6%), while Alice Lloyd went 11-for-15 from the charity stripe (73.3%).

ALC returns to the hardwood on Tuesday, January 28th, to play at Brescia University. The game will tip at 5 PM.
