Shawna Hall, a 2004 graduate of Alice Lloyd College, was honored by the Young Professionals of East Kentucky last November. Hall was given the Young Professional in Education award.

Hall, a native of Floyd County, graduated from South Floyd County High School before attending Alice Lloyd College where she earned a B. A. in 2004. While at ALC, Hall was a member of the Lady Eagles varsity basketball team. Often active in community service, she volunteered to work at the College’s New Student Orientation, which is an event held each summer to aid freshmen and transfers as they transition to college life at Alice Lloyd. She also dedicated much of her free time to helping local churches and other organizations put together fund-raising activities along with clothing and food drives.

Hall attributes much of her success to Alice Lloyd. “Having a faculty and staff that was available to help out, mentor, and guide me through my college years was crucial and beneficial,” she said. “The learning environment provided at ALC made it very easy to focus on studies and build a strong sense of personal responsibility.”

During her time in Pippa Passes, Hall learned about leadership, professionalism, and the importance of service, each a very important personal quality in the business world. These qualities have helped shape her personal and professional goals of returning to Appalachia to use her talents in combating the region’s hardships.

She also credits the College with preparing her for her current career. Hall is the Director of Operations at UPike’s Central Appalachian Institute for Research and Development (CAIRD). CAIRD’s mission is to work to improve economic conditions throughout the region.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for me to continue reaching my goals by growing this organization and making a positive impact throughout Eastern Kentucky and Central Appalachia,” Hall said.

Prior to assuming her position at CAIRD, Hall worked for several Fortune 500 industries. She is a 2012 graduate of the Leadership East Kentucky program, a member of the Southeast Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, and works closely with the East Kentucky Leadership Foundation. Remaining true to her dedication to service, she also volunteers with the Red Cross.

Currently, Hall is pursuing a Master’s degree in Business Administration at the University of Pikeville and will be graduating this spring.
