Box Score

EaglesIn what would be the first of two serious road tests, the Alice Lloyd Eagles made the trek to the East Kentucky Expo Center to challenge the UPike Bears on Sunday, December 15th. The third-ranked Bears would own this contest, beating the Eagles 107-70.

The Eagles (6-5 overall, 1-1 KIAC), coming off of a hard-fought victory at home the previous day, were never a serious threat to their opponents. At the 14:12 mark of the first half, Alice Lloyd tied the score at 11 off of a three-pointer from Stuart Stamper. However, just as it seemed that the Eagles were ready to get into the game, the UPike Bears answered by going on a 10-0 run and never looked back. When the scoring deluge had ended, ALC found themselves trailing the hosts by nearly 30 points, 29-55.

In the second, Alice Lloyd had a lot of ground to cover in a short space of time, which made the thought of a comeback virtually impossible. The visiting team improved their scoring effort, but could get no closer than a 25-point deficit. The Eagles’ defense could not stop the hot-handed Bears, and they cruised to the victory to the delight of the home crowd.

Turnovers proved to be ALC’s undoing. The Eagles turned the ball over 18 times to UPike’s 8. The Bears would make them pay for their mistakes by turning these turnovers into 33 points. Pikeville would also beat Alice Lloyd on the boards, 43-34, and amassed 66 of their 107 points in the paint. The Bears also drew upon the depth of their bench, punishing the Eagles with an offensive barrage that produced 39 points. All in all, the day belonged to the UPike Bears, despite Alice Lloyd’s attempts to turn the tide.

Stuart Stamper was the leading scorer for the Eagles with 20 points. Tyler Rogers ended the day with 16 points, and newcomer Cody Malicoat had five big rebounds to go with 5 points.

For the #3 Bears (9-1), Bruce Reed led the way with 21 points.

The Eagles will play their final game before the Christmas break at Marshall University on Tuesday, December 17th. The game will tip at 7 PM.
