BOX SCORE

Lead PicThe Alice Lloyd men’s basketball team opened their season on Saturday, November 2nd, versus the Union College Bulldogs. It was a close affair for most of the contest, but Alice Lloyd was able to pull away from the visitors in the waning stages to win 84-77. The game was played at the Grady Nutt Athletic Center in Pippa Passes, Kentucky.

The Eagles were able to get into the bonus six minutes into the first half. Tyler Rogers was on his game early and often in this one as he fueled the Eagles to an early lead. However, it was Union’s ability to be persistent that kept the Bulldogs within striking distance. The Eagles biggest lead in the first half was eleven, 34-23, with about six minutes to go. The visiting team made a 15-7 run to cut ALC’s lead to 41-38 at halftime.

In the second stanza, it was a seesaw battle between the two teams as neither could seize control of the game. The lead changed hands a few times before ALC was able to take it back for good in the latter part of the second half. The Eagles were able to get Union into foul trouble, which played a huge role in Alice Lloyd prevailing. Only in the last couple of minutes were the Eagles able to build on their advantage and pull away from the Bulldogs.

ALC’s Rogers flirted with a triple-double. The sophomore had 31 points, 16 rebounds, and 7 blocks, while Cody Malicoat, the Pikeville transfer, gave the Eagles some valuable minutes with 15 points and 5 rebounds. Isaac Wilson tallied 8 assists.

Rogers continues last year's excellent performance on the defensive end.

Union’s big man, Deante Johnson, was the team’s leading scorer with 14 points.

The Eagles will next face Kentucky Christian University on November 5th. Tip-off is set for 7:30 PM.
