BOX SCORE

Womens 4The Alice Lloyd women’s basketball team opened their season on Tuesday, November 5th, against the Lady Knights of Kentucky Christian University. ALC came out of this one on the winning end by a score of 83-81. The game was played at the Grady Nutt Athletic Center in Pippa Passes, Kentucky.

Voted the conference’s top team in the KIAC coaches’ preseason poll, the Lady Eagles (1-0, 0-0 KIAC) came out a little flat in their first game as KCU built up a lead by as many as 8 in the first half. However, ALC woke up and was able to turn the tables in their favor as they went on a run to regain the advantage on the scoreboard and led by 6 at intermission, 42-36.

The Lady Eagles kept their nose in front for most of the second half, leading by as many as 8 points. KCU (1-3) would not go away, though, as they would make a charge of their own late in the game. The Lady Knights forced some turnovers and even had a chance in the last few seconds to come away with the victory; however, KCU guard Tanya Bowens had her shot blocked, which allowed the Lady Eagles to survive.

Ariel Nickell played her usual stellar game. The senior forward had 39 points, and ALC needed every single one of them. She also corralled 16 rebounds. Carla Booth struggled early, but was instrumental for the Lady Eagles down the stretch, tallying 16 points and making shots when the Lady Eagles had to have them.

ALC's powerful duo of Nickell and Booth proved to be a bit too much for the visiting Lady Knights.

KCU’s Jana Glick led the way for her team with 22 points.

Rebounding proved to be the difference in this matchup as the Lady Eagles beat the Lady Knights on the boards, 42-29. Alice Lloyd made and took one more field goal in this contest than their counterparts: 30-65 (46.2%) to KCU’s 29-64 (45.3).

The Lady Eagles will welcome Milligan College to Pippa Passes on Saturday, November 9th. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 PM.
