PIPPA PASSES, Ky. — Prominent eastern Kentuckian, Julianne “Judy” Perry, in honor of the memory of her late husband, G. Chad Perry III, has given Alice Lloyd College one of the largest donations in its history.

Alice Lloyd will receive $1 million, which will be used to fund four Presidential Scholarships, school officials said today. The Perrys have been long-time friends of the College and support its mission of educating quality students who will return and provide leadership to Appalachia.

“We are extremely grateful for the generosity of the Perrys in supporting high-achieving mountain students,” said Jim Stepp, the College’s Executive Vice President. “Their contribution will ensure a brighter future for our region.”

The $1 million donation was presented to the College in a ceremony held during Alice Lloyd’s Appalachia Day Homecoming celebration on Saturday, October 12th. Successful and well-respected alumni Dr. Anthony Yonts, Mrs. Bessie Conley Draughn, and Dr. Lowell Martin, who is also a long-time Alice Lloyd board of trustees member, were in attendance and spoke on behalf of the couple.

The four Presidential Scholarships will cover the cost of tuition, room/board, fees, and books for the outstanding students who receive them. In addition, continued financial assistance throughout graduate and/or professional school will be available.

The minimum criteria for the scholarships are that the student must be a resident of Alice Lloyd’s 108-county service area in central Appalachia, hold a 3.50 high school grade point average, have a 27 composite ACT score or 1820 composite score on the new SAT, and possess exemplary character as evidenced by outstanding leadership and/or community service.

Since 83% of Alice Lloyd’s graduates return to serve the region, these students will be fulfilling the goals and hopes of Alice Lloyd College and that of Mr. and Mrs. Perry.
