SGA CarnivalSeptember ushers in the fall festival season in eastern Kentucky, and Alice Lloyd College is taking full advantage of that. ALC’s Student Government Association is sponsoring a campus-wide carnival and cookout on Thursday, September 5th, beginning around 5:15 PM. China Riddle, the SGA President, is promising an exciting atmosphere of food, fun, prizes, and more.

The College’s cafeteria, the Hunger Din, will provide all of the food for this event totally free to the students. Students will find a menu full of items common to fairgrounds: corn dogs, Philly cheesesteak sandwiches, chili cheese fries, deep fried green beans, pretzels, popcorn, and a vast array of sweets like triple chocolate brownies, S’mores bars, and “Make Your Own” caramel apples. As students arrive at the Hunger Din, an SGA representative will give each of them a ticket for a door prize. The winners of the four door prizes will be announced from 7:15 to 8 PM. Prizes include free T-shirts from the college bookstore and vouchers to Miss Irma’s Café.

After the carnival-themed dinner, students will be invited to spend their evening in various competitive events around campus. At 6 PM, there will be a cornhole tournament on Miss June’s Lawn (in front of Miss June’s Guest House). Games of Paint Twister — only washable paint will be used! — will also take place. First through third place winners will receive either a Walmart or iTunes gift card.

Over on the meadow, the SGA will host a 3-in-1 Sports Zone in which students can compete in football, basketball, and soccer. There will also be a setup for “zero gravity baseball.” All of these activities will involve inflatables.

“We will have SGA members at these events in the meadow,” China Riddle said. “Students can participate in the games for $1. For that amount, they receive unlimited game play. All of the money we collect will be used to fund next month’s Halloween dance.”

Sign-up sheets for the games are posted in the Davis Student Center.
