Junior captain Katie McFarland has provided excellent leadership for the young Lady Eagles volleyball squad this season, and it paid off on September 10th as the team claimed its first win in a thrashing of Hiwassee College (TN). For her superior play and toughness, the Alice Lloyd College Athletics Department has selected her as its Female Athlete of the Week.
In matches played at Johnson University this week, the Church Hill, Tennessee native put up a big fight versus the hosts, helping her teammates by claiming 2 attacks and 1 kill. Her determination in team management was on full display, though, in the squad’s second match against Hiwassee. McFarland racked up 4 aces, 7 digs, and 3 kills, but her solid and effective leadership was what really pushed the Lady Eagles to victory.
McFarland will seek to aid her team to a repeat performance in a tri-match at Asbury University on September 14th.
