Colmon Elridge III

The fall 2013 Caney Convocation Series opens on Tuesday, September 10th, with distinguished guest speaker Colmon Elridge III. Elridge, executive assistant to Kentucky governor Steve Beshear, will deliver an address titled “Servant Leadership and Building Community.”

A young star on the political scene, Elridge already possesses an impressive resumé. In December of 2007, he was appointed Executive Assistant to Kentucky’s 61st Governor Steve Beshear and, at 26, became one of the youngest members of a Governor’s Senior Staff in the history of the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

As Executive Assistant to the Governor, Elridge has been responsible for the management of the day-to-day operations of the Office of the Governor, managing a staff of over one hundred, and helping create and implement policy initiatives ranging from Children’s Health Insurance, eradicating high school dropout, and forging relationships between the public sector and the faith-based community.

Elridge is from Cynthiana, Kentucky and attended Transylvania University, receiving his degree in History with a minor in Education, Eastern Kentucky University for a Master’s in Public Administration, and Sullivan University where he received his Master’s Degree in Business Administration.

In 2000, he became the first African-American elected as President of the College Democrats of Kentucky and went on to serve as the Chairman of the Minority Caucus for the College Democrats of America.

In 2009, Elridge was elected Vice-President of the Young Democrats of America (YDA) by one of the largest margins of victory in the 80-year history of the organization.

In 2010, he was appointed Executive Vice President of the Young Democrats of America to fill out the term of YDA President Rod Snyder. In August of 2011, he was unanimously re-elected for another two-year term, becoming the first African-American elected Executive Vice President of YDA.

Elridge, his wife Victoria, and their sons Col and Carter, live in Lexington, KY.

Please join us for convocation on Tuesday, September 10th, at 1 PM in the Estelle Campbell Center for the Arts on the campus of Alice Lloyd College for an hour that promises to serve as an excellent kickoff to the fall 2013 semester.

The September 10th opening convocation is a required event for all ALC faculty, staff, and students. Yearbook photos will also be taken on this day from 8:30 AM to 3 PM in the McGaw Library and Learning Center, which is also a required activity for the college community. Professional dress is mandatory for both occasions. Due to lunch and the convocation at 1 PM, yearbook photos will not be taken from 12:30 PM to 2 PM, but will resume soon after. Also, please note that due to construction work in front of CAC everyone needs to enter the building through the side doors. Please do not enter from the JBS side. There will be signs and student workers there to help you.
