Forbes 2In a study released on July 24th by Forbes magazine, Alice Lloyd College was named one of the 100 most financially fit colleges in America. Over 900 four-year, private, non-profit institutions were analyzed and given letter grades for financial strength and operational soundness. Alice Lloyd College received an A, an impressive grade for a college that guarantees the cost of tuition in a strong academic environment. The College was ranked second among the 19 Kentucky private colleges, with other members of the top four including Berea College, Transylvania University, and Centre College.

Despite the fact that the nation’s colleges and universities are operating in extremely difficult economic times, Alice Lloyd College operates without incurring long-term debt. Alice Lloyd College does not solicit or receive direct financial support from the local, state, or federal governments. It relies instead on the support, aid, and generosity of foundations, corporations, and individuals across the nation who believe in its mission and who make its work possible. The College has more than doubled its endowment in recent years and continues to run efficiently as good stewards of its resources. Present and future students of the College can rest assured that they will be well-served.

“We are pleased to be ranked in the top 10% of colleges nationwide in this latest study by Forbes,” said Jim Stepp, ALC’s Executive Vice President. “We are extremely grateful to the supporters of this college who help to make an excellent education available to Appalachian students.”

The opportunity for Appalachian students to receive a quality education at little to no cost to them is more important than ever. Alice Lloyd College consistently ranks #1 nationally for graduating students with the least amount of debt and was named a “Top Tier College” for overall academic quality by U. S. News and World Report. The Forbes’ study shows that Alice Lloyd is a wise investment for a student’s future, but also that the College is going to be here for many years to come.

The future remains bright at Alice Lloyd College and holds the promise of even more progress and growth. The College will continue to be a regional treasure and a great light unto the mountains as it fulfills its historic goal of educating leaders for Appalachia.
