PIPPA PASSES, Ky. — Representatives from Alice Lloyd College made a special trip to Morgan County High School on the evening of May 22nd to attend the school’s Senior Awards Program. Various individuals from a number of colleges, area organizations, and families presented awards and scholarships to deserving students. Alice Lloyd’s Teresa Grender and Mindy Thomas, both representing the College’s Office of Institutional Advancement, were in attendance, along with Mark Jarrod Stamper, supervisor of the Admissions Department’s Admissions Ambassadors. The three were there to recognize Ms. Kristen Haney, a Morgan County High School senior who plans to attend Alice Lloyd College this fall.

Haney was presented with an Appalachian Leaders College Scholarship, which covers the cost of tuition for up to ten semesters.  She was also awarded the Earl and Eleanor Holbrook Endowed Scholarship. This scholarship, established in honor of two highly-respected Morgan County educators, will assist Haney with the cost of college textbooks during her freshman year at Alice Lloyd.

Mrs. Eleanor Holbrook of White Oak, Ky. and her daughter, Mrs. Earletta Jann Holbrook-Stamper (Alice Lloyd Class of 1977) of Kingsport, Tn., were present at the awards ceremony. (Mr. Holbrook passed away in March of last year.) Mrs. Stamper presented the scholarship to Haney and spoke about the Holbrooks‘ careers as educators and their long-time commitment to education in Morgan County.

“This scholarship was established to honor my parents,” Mrs. Stamper said. “It allows them to continue to make a difference in the lives of Morgan County students.”

Alice Lloyd College is grateful to Michael and Jann Stamper, as well as all members of the Holbrook family, for this very generous scholarship.
