Henry Webb
Commencement exercises for Alice Lloyd College will be held at 12:15 PM in the Grady Nutt Athletic Center gymnasium on Saturday, May 4th.
Henry L. Webb, current superintendent of Floyd County (KY) Schools, will address this year’s candidates for graduation. Webb became superintendent in 2005. During his 16 year career, Superintendent Webb has been an itinerant teacher for the visually impaired, an assistant principal and then principal of South Floyd High School. Webb went on to become a Director of Instruction for Floyd County Schools. After three years as director, he was selected as superintendent.
Under Superintendent Webb‘s leadership, Floyd County’s ranking on the state assessment is at an all-time high and the achievement gaps for all students have continued to close. Attendance has steadily improved and is currently the highest in Floyd County history. The district is student-oriented and teamwork is encouraged in order to do what is best for kids.
During his career, Henry Webb has received such awards as Floyd Countian of the Year and Partner in Education.
He has served on a variety of regional and state committees including Local Superintendents Advisory Council, KEDC Vice Chair, KVEC Vice Chair/Chairperson, Floyd County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, Alice Lloyd College Board of Trustees, EPSB Principal Redesign Committee, KASA Conference/Membership Committees, and has participated in statewide events as a panel member to discuss education in Kentucky.
In 2010 Webb was selected to be part of the Instructional Rounds Institute at Harvard University with other superintendents and state department officials from across the country. Instructional Rounds is an innovative approach to improving instruction by focusing on the instructional practice of a school/district.
Superintendent Webb completed his undergraduate work at Morehead State University as well as a master’s degree and his certification in administration. He obtained an additional master’s from the University of Louisville and is currently enrolled in the Ed. D program at Morehead State University.
Henry Webb is a native of Floyd County. He and his wife Kristi are the parents of one daughter, Kamryn.
Baccalaureate services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, May 4th. Graduating students are required to wear professional dress to this event.
Reverend Baldridge
Lawrence Baldridge will deliver the baccalaureate address. Baldridge was born in Garrett, Kentucky, and graduated from Garrett High School. In 1955 he earned an associate’s degree from Caney Junior College and was awarded a Caney Cottage Scholarship to the University of Kentucky. There he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and later earned Master’s Degrees from the University of Louisville (Community Development), the University of Kentucky (Social Work), and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (Divinity).
Since 1964, Baldridge has pastored Caney Baptist Church, setting an outstanding example of servant leadership. He helped to establish a community Kiwanis Club, Head Start Program, Senior Citizens Program, and the first ALC Baptist Student Union. Under his leadership, a beautiful new church facility was recently constructed in Pippa Passes.
A respected educator, Baldridge has taught at Alice Lloyd College, The June Buchanan School, and Hazard Community College. In the 1960s, he was instrumental (through a Community Development program with the University of Louisville) in making it possible to earn a Master’s Degree on the ALC and Pikeville College campuses. During this time, he also coordinated Robert F. Kennedy’s visit to Pippa Passes. More recently, he has served as Community Development Director during the construction of the Knott County Opportunity Center and the establishment of the School of Craft in Hindman, held numerous council positions for the Governor’s Office, and was a member of the L.K.L.P. Community Action Board and the Kentucky River Area Development District Board.
Here at home, he coordinates the summer activities of Baptist and Leader Trek groups who donate their time and efforts to construction and repair of area housing and church facilities and provide summer programs for young people.
Awards and recognitions Baldridge has received include Outstanding Young Man of America, Knott County Hall of Fame inductee, Kentucky Colonel, the Kentucky River Area Development District Leadership Award, the Kentucky Baptist Recognition of Service Award, and the Clovis Brantly Service Award of the Year for Service in the Community.
He was named Alice Lloyd College’s 2011 Alumnus of the Year. His life of service and leadership exemplifies the teachings of Alice Lloyd, June Buchanan, and the Purpose Road Philosophy. Baldridge is quick to express his gratitude for the many opportunities each provided and remains a faithful ambassador for the College.
In addition to his pastoral duties, he enjoys golfing, teaching, writing poetry, and reading. His greatest joy in life is spending time with his wife, Martha, and their three children, Ruth, David, and Mary, and their families.
SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
- Baccalaureate services will be held in the GNAC gym at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 4. Gather in the Auxiliary Gym at 10:00 a.m. to prepare for the processional.
- Commencement exercises will be held at 12:15 p.m. in the GNAC gym on Saturday, May 4. Please gather in the Auxiliary Gym at 11:45 a.m. to prepare for the processional.
- Professional dress for Baccalaureate and Academic Regalia for Commencement.
- Graduates are required to attend both Baccalaureate and Commencement exercises as well as the rehearsal for these exercises, unless they have been exempted.
- The rehearsal for graduation is scheduled in the GNAC gym at 3:00 p.m. Friday, May 3. We plan to take the group picture at this rehearsal so do not forget to bring your cap and gown!
- You may pick up your cap and gown from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. in the Bookstore. Contact Leisha Amburgey if you are unable to pick up your cap and gown during these hours. The Bookstore will be open from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 4. If you would like these items mailed, please contact Leisha at 368-6022 or 6135. On the day of graduation, the Bookstore will be giving a 10% discount to all graduating seniors and their parents (excludes textbooks and food items).
- Anyone owing money to the College must rectify the situation in order to be cleared for graduation exercises.
- Male graduates will need to remove their caps prior to the invocation and keep them off until just before the conferring of degrees.
During the break between the baccalaureate and commencement services, a reception will be held on the porch of the Grady Nutt Athletic Center. Everyone is invited to help themselves to refreshments.
