The next installment in Alice Lloyd’s Caney Convocation Series is the Voices of Appalachia Spring Concert. Each year the College choir travels to a different region of the United States performing for churches and organizations. After the tour is completed, they share selections from their spring program with the college community.

This year’s concert will be presented in three sections. To begin the evening, choir director Richard Bowers will guide the Voices in sacred music, sacred harp, southern harmony, and Bluegrass.

The night’s second feature will be a performance by ALC’s Alfred and Shirley Wampler Caudill Players. The theatre touring troupe will unveil their newest play, Alice Lloyd College: A Light Unto the Mountains, which was devised and written by Megan Burnett, ALC’s Assistant Professor of Speech and Theatre, and members of The Caudill Players. The play will share alumni stories and the history of the College in a reader’s theatre format.

The concert will conclude with some “loose ends,” as Richard Bowers says, referring to a short series of Gospel and Latin songs, which could possibly include “Goodby, World, Goodby,” “Didn’t My Lord Deliver Daniel,” “Beside the Still Waters (Psalm 23),” and Vivaldi’s “Cum Sancto Spiritu (from Gloria).”

Please join us on Thursday, April 11th, at 7:30 PM in the Estelle Campbell Center for the Arts (CAC) on the campus of Alice Lloyd College for a special evening of music and drama celebrating our rich Appalachian culture.

The event is free and open to the public.
