Alice Lloyd College Basketball, under the direction of head coach JR Hammond, is pleased to announce the signing of Barbourville High School’s Devon Mills to an athletic letter of intent for the 2013-14 season. Coach Hammond traveled to Barbourville, KY on Tuesday, April 9th, and returned to Pippa Passes with the fresh signature of the Tigers’ standout guard.

Devon is a natural leader who leads by example,” Coach Hammond said. “This young man is a dedicated, hard-working athlete. He never stops working on either end of the floor.”

The senior’s stats are certainly impressive. He ranked in the top ten in the state in scoring at 23.5 ppg. An excellent shooter, Mills averaged 36% from behind the arc and 48% from the field. He was also no slouch at the free throw line, hitting 75% of his charity tosses. Out of the 31 games his team played this season, Mills was the leading scorer in 22 of them and tallied 30+ points on five different occasions. But shooting the ball isn’t the only thing this guy does well. He was second on his team in rebounding, collecting five per game.

The Eagles will need to develop strong guard play in 2013-14, especially since senior Isaac Wilson will depart the team at the close of the season, which will leave the team in need of the leadership and hot handed scoring that Mills can provide.

Devon does bring scoring to our team,” said Coach Hammond, “but, more importantly, he brings a big heart.”

Sounds like a recipe for a promising career on the hardwood to us.

Alice Lloyd College Athletics and Athletic Director Gary Stepp are proud to welcome Devon Mills into the Eagles fold! We look forward to seeing the depth of his talents and abilities next season.
