The Alice Lloyd Lady Eagles softball squad battled Berea on Tuesday afternoon. The games were played in Pippa Passes, Kentucky. Below is a rundown of the two-game series.

Shayla Brinegar smacks one for ALC.

Game 1

ALC 3

Berea 5

Whitley Albury started the series opener for ALC, and she got some run support early on. Alice Lloyd came out swinging as they put up two runs in the first inning. Berea tied the game in the top of the third inning at 2-2, but the Lady Eagles got one run in the bottom of the third to reclaim the lead.

Alice Lloyd was leading until the sixth inning when Berea got three runs. This would allow Berea to hold on for the win as ALC could not rally. Still, Albury pitched commendably despite giving up five runs and nine hits. Shayla Brinegar drove in two runs while Megan Boswell had the other RBI.

Game 2

ALC 5

Berea 6

Kristin Fields continued her strong hitting for the Lady Eagles.

In game two of the doubleheader, Kayla Stambaugh was the starting pitcher for Alice Lloyd. Again, ALC raced out to an early 2-0 lead, this time scoring two in the second inning. Berea added runs in the third and fourth inning to make the score 3-2 in favor of Berea. The Lady Eagles recaptured the lead as they scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth to make it 5-3. Berea tied the game in the very next inning with two runs.

The sixth inning was the difference again. Berea scored the go-ahead run and what turned out to be the game-winning run. Stambaugh gave up five runs along with eight hits. Kristin Fields had a strong game at the plate with two RBIs while Whitley Albury had one.

The Lady Eagles will be back in action on Friday, April 12th, as they take on Midway College in a home doubleheader that begins at 2 PM. Wet weather conditions could force officials to cancel the games, so watch our Sports Ticker for updated information.
