The Alice Lloyd Eagles played in a three-game series with the Ohio Mid-Western Rams this past weekend. ALC took two of three from the visitors from Cincinnati, Ohio.

Wayne Sparks was the starting pitcher in the first game of the series. Alice Lloyd would score the go-ahead run in the first inning and would score another run in the second. Ohio got one of those runs back in the third. In the top of the fifth inning, the Rams would even the score at 2-2. The game could not be settled in regulation; so, an eighth inning had to be played.

In the bottom half, ALC would walk off on a base hit. Cody Hyden played at the catcher position for this match-up and drove in a run. Josh Mills was awarded with the other RBI. Joey Stamper, Shane Pack and Ben Ray all scored one run apiece. Sparks was the winning pitcher as he went the whole distance, pitching all eight innings. He walked 2, gave up 2 runs (both earned) on 5 hits and recorded 9 strikeouts.

 

Game 2

Ohio Mid-Western 4

Coach Scott Cornett sent Ian Delaney onto the mound for game 2. Ohio scored a run in the first to take a 1-0 lead. The Eagles would answer with two runs of their own in the second to take a 2-1 advantage. The home team would add two more to make it 4-1 through four innings of play. 

Mid-Western fought back to tie the game in the top half of the fifth with three runs. Alice Lloyd scored what turned out to be the deciding run in the fifth and would hold off the Rams in the top of the sixth to preserve the win.

Tanner Hensley was a tough out in this one with 2 hits and 3 runs batted in. Trae Minton and Shane Pack also had one RBI apiece. Delaney pitched four innings, giving up 1 run on 4 hits, walking 2 batters. He had 3 strikeouts. Dylan Sullins and Chance Westerfield came in out of the bullpen. They combined to pitch an inning, giving 3 runs (2 earned) on 3 hits.

Mackenzie Hicks was given the spot start in the series finale for the Eagles. Ohio took a 1-0 lead after one inning of play. Alice Lloyd responded with two in the second and one in the third to take a 3-1 lead through three. The Rams tied it in the fourth and took the lead in the fifth. They would shut down the Eagles in the bottom half of the fifth to avoid the sweep.

For the second straight game, Shane Pack had an RBI. Greg Wright drove in the other run. Tanner Hensley, Josh Mills and Joey Stamper came across to score. Hicks pitched 3 and 1/3 innings, allowing 7 hits and 3 runs (all earned) and walked 4. He also had 2 strikeouts. Daniel Burgess and Ryan Burrow pitched a combined 1 and 1/3 innings. They surrendered 2 hits and 1 run while walking 3 and striking out 2.

The Eagles return to their home field on March 15th and 16th for a pair of doubleheaders versus Brescia University that begin at 1 PM and 12 PM, respectively.
