The June Buchanan Middle School Academic Team was back in action last week, competing at the Regional level. After sweeping the District Competition, the Crusaders were excited to defend their Regional Quick Recall title and earn a return trip to State Competition. The students were ecstatic when they once again beat out the competition to claim the Regional Quick Recall Champions trophy. Additionally, the scores of the team added up to overall victory, as the Crusaders claimed the title of Regional Champions, beating out a field of eleven other schools from two counties!

“We are so blessed to work with this great group of students. They continually set high goals for themselves and are not satisfied until they achieve them,” stated Coach Cindy Hall. Coach Natalie Gibson added, “I’ve worked with our four Quick Recall starters since they were in 5th grade, so I understand what a major achievement this is for them. To win back-to-back Regional Quick Recall titles and to earn the overall Champions title is a great way to top off their middle school academic team careers. However, we don’t plan to stop here! We want to do well at the State competition, too!”

Team captain Trey Moore had the following to say about his experience at the Regional Competition: “The team did an exceptional job. We all work well together as a team. We had a great deal of fun with this competition, and now we are looking forward to State!”

Last year, the Crusaders won their first game at the State level by twenty points, and only lost the other two games of pool play by a combined total of five points. With another year of practice, as well as the experience gained from last year’s State Competition, the Crusaders plan to advance even further in Quick Recall this year.

Additionally, all four Quick Recall starters took top honors in their individual testing areas. The JBS Future Problem Solving Team won 3rd place in the region as well, all of which added up to the Crusaders’ overall victory. The following students will be competing at the State level, which will be hosted at The Galt House in Louisville on March 16, 17, and 18. Good luck, Crusaders!!!
