Poor first half field goal shooting and 21 total turnovers proved too much to overcome as the University of Pikeville Bears knocked off Alice Lloyd College 71-64 Tuesday night at the Grady Nutt Athletic Center. With the loss, ALC saw their 4-game winning streak come to an end.

The teams were tied four times early in the game, including at 11 before the Bears ran off eight straight points in 1:24. All eight points were scored by guard Sally Roberts. Her layup with 13:14 to play to made it 19-11.

Due to ice-cold shooting from the hosts, UPike took a 16 point lead (41-25) at intermission.

In the second half, ALC revved up their own defense and held Pikeville to only one point in the first five minutes. When Lady Eagles sophomore Carla Booth scored on a drive with 15:48 to play, the lead was down to six at 42-36.

ALC's star point guard Carla Booth.

The lead stayed between five and 13 the rest of the way until ALC’s Courtney Crowder scored with 1:16 left on the clock to make it 64-60. Unfortunately, the Bears went 5-of-6 from the line to seal the win.

Alice Lloyd (6-4) was led by Booth‘s 15 points. Junior forward Ariel Nickell and sophomore guard J.J. Hickson added 14 points apiece.

Nickell collected 10 rebounds, but Carla McDaniel was a real force inside, picking up 11 boards. Hickson tossed in 4 assists.

Pikeville (2-4) was led by Roberts with 16 points and 9 steals.

The Lady Eagles will look to get back to their winning ways on December 1st when they host Ohio Christian University. That game is set to tip-off at 2 PM.
