The Alice Lloyd College Cross Country squad traveled to Richmond, Indiana on November 3rd to participate in the KIAC Conference Championship. The weather was brisk and cold with some light sleet, but despite the adverse conditions, over 120 runners braved the elements.

Allison Holbrook

In the women’s 5K race, freshman Allison Holbrook was part of a group of 60 strong women striving to run their best. Holbrook gave her all, and she crossed the line in 22:23. Her impressive time placed her in the top half of all females, as she finished in 29th place.

On the men’s end of things, 65 brave souls left with the starter’s gun for the 8K. For ALC, freshman Greg Randolph was the first to cross the finish line. Despite battling severe leg cramps, the competitive Randolph still managed to complete the race in 30:05. This was good enough to place him 36th overall.

Sophomore Jimmy Noble battled hard as he finished his run in a solid 31:30. His time earned him 51st place.
Freshman Blane Grubbs, who just returned from injuries sustained in a car crash a week earlier, fought strong to finish 59th in 34:07.

Freshman Jonathan Aldana and sophomore Caleb Lofton gutted out the course in 39:20 and 39:25, respectively. This placed the duo in 63rd and 64th place overall.

After the meet, Eagles Coach Gary D. Stepp commented, “I am really pleased with the progress my young team made. All of them grew over the course of the season, and each made tremendous strides. The best part is that each of these fine student-athletes will return next year, along with the injured Ethan Bowling.”

The coach added, “They will still be a young group, but they now know more of what to expect on this level, and of what they need to do to achieve their best. I feel that they are each hungry to improve, and I expect greater thing from them next season.”
