Alice Lloyd held the visiting Montreat Cavaliers to just 31% field goal shooting to earn a 60-46 victory Tuesday night.

In the first half, senior center Terry Muse scored 6 quick points to propel the Eagles to an early 8-3 lead. Alice Lloyd’s defense then took over as they held the Cavs to 28% shooting to jump ahead 33-18 by intermission.

In the second half, Montreat refused to fold as they slowly cut the lead to just seven (47-40) with 6:55 remaining.

Rogers slams one home.

At this important juncture, freshman forward Tyler Rogers took over. First, he emphatically threw down a massive dunk at 6:45. After a solid defensive possession, Rogers was fouled on the next trip down the floor and sank both charity tosses. After another Eagles defensive clinic, Rogers then posted up for a strong inside bucket. When the smoke cleared, ALC led 53-40 with 5:30 left on the clock, and the Cavaliers’ hopes for a comeback were dashed.

For the victors (5-5) Rogers and Muse led the way with 14 and 13 points. In addition, Muse ripped down 14 rebounds and Rogers added 9. For good measure, each big man swatted 3 blocks apiece. Sophomore guard Justin Hobbs chipped in with 9 points and 3 assists.

Montreat (2-6) was led by Ian McVie and La’Bris Adams with 12 points each.

The Eagles will look to stay in the winner’s circle when they travel to Kentucky Christian on December 1st. Game time is set for 1 PM.
