On September 4th Alice Lloyd College was featured in a segment on The Today Show called “How to Attend College for Little to No Money.” The video highlights a select group of “tuition free” colleges across America. Alice Lloyd was one of only five schools mentioned in the report.

The colleges are described as being highly selective with small campuses. Guest speaker on The Today Show, Farnoosh Torabi, a financial expert, states, “Cooper Union has a 7% acceptance rate. Alice Lloyd, also 7%. So, very competitive, obviously. Who wouldn’t want free tuition?”

Torabi continues by explaining how these schools guarantee free tuition, which means that the overall cost of tuition is covered but not room/board, books, and fees. The segment also features ways high school students can lessen the college toll even further by applying for scholarships on websites like fastweb.com and scholarships.com, or by joining the armed forces.

Alice Lloyd College was also recently mentioned in a Yahoo! Finance report by Ms. Torabi that was again informing the public of ways to pay close to nothing or nothing at all to attend college. On the list of the few schools across America that offer guaranteed tuition, Alice Lloyd was listed first. In the 2012 edition of U.S. News and World Report, Alice Lloyd College was ranked number one in America for having graduated students with the least amount of average debt.

With the student population around 600 students, Alice Lloyd is a small college in an intimate atmosphere that quickly begins to feel like home for many of its students. Located in the heart of Appalachia, ALC stands as a beacon of hope in a region that has been hit hard by the current economic downturn. Sophomore Jesse Riffe proudly says, “Alice Lloyd has provided me with a number of opportunities to better myself and achieve my goals.”
