BEREA, KY May 23, 2012 – The honors just keep coming for Alice Lloyd College basketball star Ariel Nickell. Along with her many awards and achievements, Nickell can now add the title of KIAC Female Athlete of the Year to her résumé. Conference officials made the important announcement on Thursday, May 17th. 

Earlier this year, the Alice Lloyd sophomore was also named the conference’s Women’s Basketball Player of the Year for the 2011-12 Season. Nickell played in 32 games, scoring 719 points, which ranked third in the NAIA. She was also fourth in points per game (22.47), fifth in defensive rebounds per game (7.3), 15th in total rebounds per game (9.5), and 18th in total steals (80). The Eagles finished third in the regular season with a conference record of 6-5.

In addition to being named Conference Player of the Year, Nickell has received a multitude of other honors this season. She was named an NAIA Second Team All-American and was also chosen as the KIAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Year. Most impressively, she was selected for the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame “Ring of Honor.” The “Ring of Honor” included a select few women’s basketball players from around the country who were asked to send a jersey to the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in Knoxville, Tennessee. Her jersey will join 99 other jerseys of women’s basketball players selected from all levels recognizing female basketball players who achieved remarkable seasons.
