After a prolific week at the plate, Cody Hyden has been selected as the KIAC Player of the Week. The announcement was made by league officials on Monday, March 26th. Also for his efforts, Hyden has earned the distinction of being the USCAA National Player of the Week.

Hyden, a 6-foot-2, junior third baseman from Blountville, TN, collected at least one hit in all six games played as the Eagles finished the week at 5-1. Hyden ended the week with a .647 batting average (11-for-17). He was 2-for-3 in three of four games against Asbury University and had a three-hit game in the Eagles’ 20-9 win over New River Community College. He leads the conference with a .482 batting average, which also ranks 6th in the NAIA.

The USCAA was also impressed with Hyden’s batting average for the week’s six games. On top of that, Hyden broke a school record by driving in 14 runs in a single week. He was able to accrue 5 extra base hits (4 doubles, 1 triple) to help the Eagles earn a winning record during the six-game stretch.

Cory Brewer, a 6-foot junior from Stanton, KY, also caught the attention of KIAC officials for his steady play on the mound. Brewer was named the KIAC Pitcher of the Week on Monday, March 26th. He pitched a three-hit shutout to lead the Eagles to a 1-0 win versus Asbury University. The victory was Brewer’s first of the year. He currently has a 1-2 record with a 3.86 earned run average. The opposition has a .263 batting average against the junior pitcher over his 21 innings pitched this season.

Congratulations to both of these outstanding student-athletes!

The Eagles return to action on Wednesday, March 28th, for a 2 PM home double-header with Virginia Intermont.  Then, on the weekend (March 30th and 31st), the Eagles will host IUSE in a four-game series at ALC’s Reeve Athletic Field.
