The June Buchanan Crusaders have hired a new Boys Basketball coach. In an announcement made earlier this week, Jerry Manns from Hueysville, Kentucky was named as the team’s mentor. JBS is excited about the many opportunities the school is able to provide for its students, as well as the achievements made by students in both academics and extracurricular activities.

Research shows the importance of student involvement in extracurricular activities. Increased self-esteem, academic achievement, and overall positive social behaviors are only a few of the benefits of participating in afterschool programs. Remarking on the subject, Dean Amanda Clark said, “Offering programs such as academics, speech, drama, arts and enrichment, and various sports in which our students are invited to participate is a part of our mission to nurture students intellectually, physically, socially, and spiritually.”

Jerry Manns met with students interested in the Boys Basketball program for the upcoming 2012-2013 school year, and made his first statement as Head Coach, saying, “First and foremost, I love God, and I serve Him.” Manns introduced his vision to the boys, detailing his goals for strengthening skills (both on and off the court), going to the weight room, and attending summer camps. Open gym at June Buchanan will begin in mid-March, and Manns says he is excited to get a new year and season started.

Dean Amanda Clark stated, “Coach Manns will be a positive role model for the students. He will give them guidance and instill in them the determination that I am sure will bring about great success to our program.”

Manns served as head coach at Garret Christan Academy with many years of experience and an amazing knowledge of the game. He has also served as assistant basketball coach at Allen Central and Wesley Christian.

Dean Clark continued, saying, “Providing this program for our students is a blessing. Several JBS teams have advanced to state, including the Middle School academic team and speech team. We’ve also had a student earn the chance to compete in this year’s State Spelling Bee. Several students have applied for the art program at Morehead State University, and JBS students have higher than the national and state average on the ACT. Students are excelling, and I look forward to seeing what the future holds for our kids in all areas!”

The June Buchanan School has open enrollment for the 2012-2013 School Year and invites students who are interested in a well-rounded college preparatory education to call ahead for an appointment to tour the school. To schedule your visit, please call (606) 368-6108.
