The Alice Lloyd Eagles traveled to Cincinnati to face Cincinnati Christian University in the opening round of the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Eagles shot well, but watched the hosts drain 14 three pointers to pull out a 98-80 victory.

In the opening half, both clubs came out putting points on the board. CCU slowly pulled ahead to lead 29-24 with 6:30 remaining.  They then closed the half on a 14-5 run to take a 43-29 lead into the locker room.

In the second half, both clubs shot well from the field, but the difference was the three-point shooting by Cincinnati. They ended up draining 14 long range bombs on the night compared to only 4 for Alice Lloyd, and were able to use that advantage keep the ALC Eagles at bay.

ALC (14-15), who closes their season with the loss, placed five players in double figures. They were led on the night by sophomores Shawn Thompson and Isaac Wilson with 18 and 16 points, respectively. Thompson also had 7 rebounds and 5 assists.

Seniors Hayes, Dalton, and Hall

Seniors Casey Dalton and Brandon Hayes closed out their careers by scoring 15 and 14 points each. Dalton added 5 rebounds, 3 steals, and 3 assists on the night, while Hayes contributed 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Fellow senior Brent Hall also ended a fine career in limited minutes tonight, while sophomore Terry Muse chipped in 10 points and 7 rebounds.

CCU (11-18) was led by Kevin Mitchell with 21 points. His club now advances to Monday’s semi-final round to face the top seeded IU Southeast Grenadiers.

Alice Lloyd shot 53.4% (31-58) while Cincinnati shot 53.3 %( 40-75) from the field. The Eagles hit 73.7% (14-19) from the charity stripe compared to CCU’S 80% (4-5). CCU also won the battle of the boards 32-26.
