The Alice Lloyd College Eagles took to the road last night for a showdown with Asbury University. In a contest that was close throughout, the Eagles fell 69-58.

In the opening stanza, the game was a battle with neither team maintaining a lead larger than five points during the first twenty minutes. The hosts trailed 28-27 with two minutes remaining, but closed on a 6-2 run to lead 33-30 at intermission.

Asbury opened the first six minutes of the final half on an 11-3 run to sprint out to an eleven-point cushion (44-33). Over the remainder of the half, the Eagles stayed within striking distance, but they were never able to get closer than six points for the remainder of the contest.

For ALC (12-14, 4-8 KIAC), sophomores Shawn Thompson and Isaac Wilson were the only players to score double figures, accounting for 19 and 13 points apiece. Fellow sophomore Terry Muse (pictured at left) contributed game highs with 14 rebounds and 5 blocks, and he led the Eagles with 3 assists.

Asbury (11-14, 5-6 KIAC) was led by Marquel Johnson and Dakota Euton with 19 points each.

The stats show how evenly matched the two clubs were. ALC shot 33% (22-68) to AU’s 32% (24-72) from the floor and 10-18 from the charity stripe to Asbury’s 10-12. However, Asbury made 11 bombs compared to just 4 for Alice Lloyd, and they also won the battle of the glass 55-41.
